1. Overview
Creator Compass ("we," "us," "our") is a service operated by Creator Compass LLC. We help YouTube creators understand their channel performance through automated analysis. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use creatorcompassapp.com, how we use it, and what rights you have.
By using our service, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Channel Assessment form: first name (optional), email address, YouTube channel handle or URL, your stated mood/struggle, content focus (Shorts, longform, or both), niche, time creating, list of competitors or inspirations, your current content challenge, your stated interests in Creator Compass features.
- BETA enrollment: if you join the paid BETA, you'll provide payment information through our payment processor (Stripe) and grant read-only access to your YouTube Studio analytics.
- Email replies and support correspondence: if you reply to our emails or contact us, we store those messages so we can help you.
Information we collect automatically
- Public YouTube channel data: when you submit your channel handle, we use the YouTube Data API to retrieve publicly available data about your channel (subscriber count, video metadata, performance statistics, thumbnails, and similar public information).
- Usage data: page visits, links clicked, the page that referred you to us, your approximate location (country/region inferred from IP), browser type, device type, and timestamps. This is aggregated for analytics.
- Form submission metadata: when you submit a form, we capture the timestamp, the URL of the page you submitted from, and any UTM parameters in the URL (used for marketing attribution).
3. How we use your data
We use the information we collect to:
- Generate and deliver your free Channel Assessment report.
- Provide the BETA service (channel diagnostic, "What to Make Next" video ideas, coaching notes).
- Send you transactional emails (your report, updates about your BETA, support responses).
- Improve our service and develop new features.
- Understand which marketing channels are bringing creators to us, so we can spend our limited time and budget where it's working.
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or spam (including using a honeypot field on our forms).
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not share your channel data with advertisers.
4. Third-party services we use
To deliver the service, we work with these processors. Each one has its own privacy policy that governs how they handle your information:
- Netlify — hosts our website and captures form submissions as a backup.
- Zapier — orchestrates our automation pipeline (taking form submissions, calling the YouTube API, generating reports, sending emails).
- YouTube Data API (Google LLC) — retrieves your public channel data and, if you join the BETA, your read-only analytics.
- Anthropic — provides the AI model that analyzes your channel data and generates the report. Anthropic processes your data on our behalf and does not use it to train their models per their commercial agreement.
- Stripe — processes BETA payments. We never see or store your card details; Stripe handles all payment processing.
- Google Drive & Gmail — used internally to store generated reports and send them to you.
- Google Sheets — used internally to log submissions for our own record-keeping.
- HubSpot — analytics and CRM. Tracks page visits and form submissions to help us understand conversions.
- Google Analytics (if enabled) — anonymized site usage analytics.
5. YouTube data & YouTube API services
Creator Compass uses YouTube API Services. By using our service, you also agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
Free Channel Assessment: we only access publicly available channel data using your channel handle. No login or YouTube Studio access is required.
BETA Access: we request read-only access to your YouTube Studio analytics. We use this access exclusively to generate your personalized report. We never post, comment, edit, or delete anything on your behalf. You can revoke our access at any time through your Google Account permissions page, which will immediately stop our service from accessing your data.
We retain YouTube data only as long as needed to provide the service. We delete YouTube data when you ask, or 90 days after you stop using the service, whichever comes first.
6. Cookies & tracking
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies, all of which fall into one of these buckets:
- Essential cookies: needed for the site to function (e.g., session state).
- Analytics cookies: HubSpot and (optionally) Google Analytics use cookies to count visits, see what pages perform well, and help us improve.
- Marketing attribution: if you arrive via a UTM-tagged link, we capture those parameters with your form submission so we know which campaign sent you.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings. Some site features may not work without them.
7. Data retention
- Form submissions and email addresses: retained while your account is active and for up to 24 months after, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
- YouTube channel data: retained only as long as needed to generate your report. Cached data is purged within 90 days.
- BETA onboarding data without Studio access: if you complete the BETA onboarding form but never grant YouTube Studio access, the data you submitted is deleted within 30 days of payment.
- Payment records: retained as required by law (typically 7 years for tax purposes); managed by Stripe.
- Aggregated, anonymized analytics: retained indefinitely.
8. Your rights & choices
Regardless of where you live, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct any inaccuracies.
- Delete your data ("right to be forgotten"). Just email us; we'll handle it within 30 days.
- Export your data in a portable format.
- Opt out of marketing emails (every email has an unsubscribe link).
- Revoke YouTube API access through your Google Account at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@creatorcompassapp.com. We don't charge for this.
9. Security
We use industry-standard security practices: HTTPS everywhere, encrypted data at rest with our processors, scoped API keys, and the principle of least privilege. No system is bulletproof, but we work hard to keep your data safe. If we ever experience a breach affecting your data, we'll notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
10. Children
Creator Compass is not intended for anyone under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, please contact us and we'll delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be communicated via email if you've shared one with us, or via a notice on the site.
